A Coca Cola Christmas
« on: November 24, 2014, 02:37:14 pm »
So, I recently came across this thing that I thought was interesting but I still can't quite say how or why or what I even really think beyond that.

Some background: I was born in the Philippines, and grew up around this local practice of hanging up star-shaped lanterns called parol that often have a ruffle encircling it to make the (frequently five-pointed) star lantern part look like it's shining--and, yeah, it looks like a pentagram.

When I started middle school abroad and innocently drew what was Christmas for me, I miiight have upset the nun who gave the class that assignment. But I didn't know that the parol was specific to my culture!

Apparently, Coca Cola has caught wise and are with which people can easily plug in empty liter bottles and create a Coca Cola lantern. Yay, recycling! Yay, arts-and-crafts!

Once upon a time I would gave gone, "boo, commercialismas" but now I think it's quite clever.

Even though I've converted to Pepsi.

I need a "like" button for this story (the practice being coopted by Coke, not so much). Esp. the punchline.
The first song sets the wheel in motion / The second is a song of love / The third song tells of Her devotion / The fourth cries joy from the sky above
The fifth song binds our fate to silence / and bids us live each moment well / The sixth unleashes rage and violence / The seventh song has truth to tell
The last song echoes through the ages / to ask its question all night long / And close the circle on these pages / These, the metamythos songs

JUdging by some of the examples in the Coke ad, I think that's a really neat custom.

That is....the most fucking adorable video I have ever seen. And I am a veteran cat video subscriber.

And you deserve rep for your punchline alone.
KARMA: You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
