It feels right, it resonates, but its so "new"
« on: November 04, 2014, 03:35:04 am »
I've struggled with this for a long time.  I thoroughly enjoy what I do know of Wicca.  The Rede, Witches Rune, Charge of the Goddess (and God), the rhymes, art.  It's beautiful.  When my heart is bleeding, it seems that its the Wiccish thoughts and practices that give me the feeling that I was heard, acknowledged, and taken care of.  This is in stark opposition to other pagan paths where I felt like I was talking to nothing.

What I have a hard time getting over is how newly formed it is.  I'm aware that while having things pulled together into Wicca is new, the sources and morals of the myths often predate many other "mainstream" belief systems.

Why does it feel like a dirty thing to feel so totally drawn and connected just because its new?

'Dirty' is a pretty telling word, eh?

My guess is that it's either something to do with how you were brought up, or it's just that old thing about age = legitimacy. Which is pretty silly, but it's undeniable that there's a lot of people who think just because something is old it means it must work just fine.

Out of curiosity, does this sort of attitude creep into other areas of your life, or is it solely a religious issue?

Every ancient religion was new at one point. The idea the old equals better in religion and spirituality is spread by old religions as a means of ensuring hegemony, and has been beaten into your mind like any other cultural programming.

This is pretty much only a religion type thing.  Being a computer guy, and also auto mechanics, evolution of things is just a part of existance.

It would probably be worthwhile to you to dig into what, precisely, about "newness" is your issue here, and explore that.  Often when a person has this kind of tangle, there's a lot of interesting power to be had digging through it and exposing its roots.
