Your favourite wine
« on: November 01, 2014, 10:06:49 pm »
As there is a thread asking about your favourite beer, I now open a thread about favourite wines.

--------------------

If it comes to red wine, I like Pinot Noir - or "Spätburgunder" in German.

Among the white wines I prefer Riesling and Gewürztraminer. :)

-------------------------

And what do you like? :)

I have migraines, so reds are pretty much out for me. But lately I've been exploring some of the whites from the Bourgogne, especially Meursault and Pouilly-Fuisse, and I've been enjoying them.

I like a good dry Riesling.  Crisp and bitey.

Riesling. Shiraz for a good red wine. I also tried this GREAT hard apple cider yesterday - locally made :)

I also like wines from Burgundy - may they be red or white - or  rosé. :)

I'm a bit like

But seriously, I like most reds. One of my go-to reds is a Pinot Noir by Gray Monk here in Canada because it is just soooo smooth. If in doubt I usually grab a Shiraz. I've also been known to pick wine based on how cool the label is, and this has worked out well a surprising number of times.

I'm also partial to Rosés. Not really sweet ones, but crisp ones. Bubbles are also a joy.

Heh, I do this too sometimes.

One of my go-to favorites is Naked Grape Shiraz-Malbec (the label is so called because they don't oak the wine).

I'll often go for a Merlot because they're hard to screw up. Gato Negro from Chile is pretty good.

My parents are big fans of "Flying Squirrel Wine" - one of the reds from Pelee Island, which labels each variety with a local animal. I think the flying squirrel is Cabernet?

This one time at a cousin's party I encountered a really nice wine, fruity but really dry, I think I ended up drinking half the bottle ... and then I was too buzzed to remember what kind it was. :(

I like a good Riesling. I also like blush wines. I can't drink reds because they give me a migraine.

I love Argentine Malbecs, esp. since they're generally affordable. Also Riojas from Spain. And when I was in Italy in June, I had a wine native to the Puglia region for the first time, Negroamaro (literally "black" and "bitter" -- which suits me just fine ;) )--it was strong, spicy, and delicious.

The fifth song binds our fate to silence / and bids us live each moment well / The sixth unleashes rage and violence / The seventh song has truth to tell
The last song echoes through the ages / to ask its question all night long / And close the circle on these pages / These, the metamythos songs

For regular whites, I like Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon Blanc.  I used to be a Riesling fan, but my once favored Spätlese is now too sweet for me.  In the summer, I tend to add Vinho Verde from Portugal.  It's light, dry, and effervescent.

For reds, I'm a fan of Argentinian Malbecs and Beaujolais.  Riojas are a great choice, too.

ETA: I also forgot - true champagne is also a winner!

So do i! :)

I like blueberry wine, for example.

But when I say just "wine" - I never mean fruit wines by it. ;)

I've discovered mead. I am using it in my libation offerings to Thor and the Aesir. The brand I grabbed by doing an "eenie meenie miney mo" is Vikingernes Mjød. After I bought it I was told by someone that is one of the best. Guided by the Gods, maybe? :)
