Oh my goodness, that's tragic. He was a bit of an inspiration to me. He will be missed by a lot of people.

May he reach the land of his beloved ancestors.

I knew he was having some significant health issues, so I'm not all that surprised, but I'm sad.

I know he had a major heart attack about a year ago.

He made a full recovery that one 2 years ago thankfully. His death yesterday  was completely unexpected.

No such thing as a "full recovery" from a major heart attack. The heart muscle is invariably damaged and you are pre-disposed to having another one. Scar tissue carries electrical impulses differently than normal heart tissue.

If you say so

Sadly true.

If you say so

Myocardial infarction, a "major heart attack", by definition involves a reduction in oxygen to the muscle of the heart and subsequent cell death due to oxygen starvation. Bare minimum you end up with just scar tissue. Most of the time you end up with patches of dead heart tissue and scarring.

Dead heart muscle doesn't pump blood. Scarred heart muscle does so inefficiently. Once the heart is damaged like that, it's very likely it will suffer a repeat occurrence because - in addition to the damage already done -  the factors that play into having an MI don't magically go away after you've had one.

So yes...there is no such thing as a full recovery from a major heart attack. You can go on to recover very well, but nothing will resurrect dead heart muscle.
