OBOD article by a polytheist
« on: October 03, 2014, 04:16:22 am »
As we've had a number of people express tentative interest in OBOD recently, I thought this article might be useful. It's by John Beckett, an American polytheist and OBOD druid-grade member. He's got a good handle on the history and modern processes of OBOD.

Cool! That was a nice article. As a polytheist, I've been wondering how my views would fit. Good to know OBOD provides a good background for this type of belief.

I also enjoyed reading this article. I've always been curious about OBOD but ultimately unable/unwilling to pay the course fee.

Count me also among the 'curious about OBOD' group; while my personal path seems to be taking me in a slightly different direction, the interplay of differences and shared organization history is...interesting.

I find it interesting that he highlights the strength of the distance-learning course; that is probably the bit that I would find most useful! To the best of my knowledge, the closest Druid group to me is several hours' drive away, and then factor in the difficulties of finding a compatible teacher.
All knowledge is worth having.
It doesn't stop being magic just because you know how it works.

I found it to be a very useful article... esp. acknowledging that the Gods have less of an emphasis in their training materials.

The course's expense does give one a bit of a pause.  I like that they have different ways of getting the material - paper only, audio only or combined paper and audio, all at different prices.  And that one can pay either monthly or quarterly.  If you're going for the combined paper and audio version (payable by credit card) it comes to $41 American dollars a month at most... which could equal two dinners out at a restaurant or two books from amazon or a couple movie tickets?

Considering they have no other membership fees I believe other than the course fees, it's not overly expensive IF one is sure of one's long-term commitment to working through the materials?

I believe there's even an (optional) add-on fee if a second person would be using the same material, but wanted his/her own mentor.
peace,
