Baltic Slavic Chat!
« on: August 17, 2014, 06:23:30 am »
So it looks like there are a few of us interested in doing a Baltic and Slavic chat, I'll admit, I'm exited.
What would you  like to discuss in a chat?
Also what times work for you?

I'd love to hear about people's deity interactions, but also any practices they have that are related in some way to Baltic Slavic things.
As far as times, I'm able to be available from around 11pm UTC to 1pm UTC, I can adjust around that a bit if need be.

Are you thinking weekday or weekend? Out of those times, probably something towards the end of that, like 11am UTC, would see me the least likely to be interrupted, but I can probably make arrangements for earlier.

I'm able to possibly do those times on the weekends, but I'm usually at work or needing to sleep during the weekday at those times.

Weekends are good, I can get up earlier or stay up later on weekends as needed. :)

I know almost nothing about these pantheons but I do have an interest in Saule. Deity interactions in general would be interesting to hear - though I'm just a lurker in this area and don't have much to contribute myself, so take my opinion with a saltshaker.

I'm pretty sure that's why we're looking to have the chat, so the fact that you don't consider yourself experienced is not at all a problem, IMO.

I have a heavy interest in the Baltic/Slavic stuff in general. I'd mostly like to hear about the animistic practices that the slavics/baltics had, and how that works into people's personal practices? if that made sense. I'm really interested in their myths surrounding land/water/etc spirits, more so then the deities?

This is another area where it would be really great if a summary could be posted in a thread for those of us who can't do chat. :-)

By coincidence I've been reading a book that you might find interesting:
The return of the ancestral gods: modern Ukrainian paganism as an alternative vision for a nation, by Mariya Lesiv. McGill-Queen's UP, 2013.

So it seems that weekends are the way to go, why don't we try to sort out some dates?

I'm currently thinking the weekend of the 13th and 14th of September, but it's just a starting point, we can move it forward or back as needed. I'm looking forward to this :)

I... am hugely in favor of this. The thirteenth would work best for me, but either or would do fine. I'm pretty sure 11 PM UTC works for me as well. (fingers crossed)

*raises hand* I pray to Saule on a regular basis and would love to hear your thoughts on her during the chat (or otherwise if you prefer). Salt may be on hand, but I'd advise that you bring your own as well. ;)

Huh, I'm interested.  Weekends, early on Sundays; any time on Saturday is equally inconvient.
