Coptic Knitting?
« on: July 08, 2014, 01:31:21 am »
Does anyone know how to knit in this style or know where I can get some decent resources (ie patterns)?

I understand that it is a somewhat obscure Egyptian style of knitting, but I thought perhaps someone might be familiar with it.

Any help is appreciated.

I've only heard the term used (very rarely) as an alternative name for Coptic stitching, as in the book-binding technique. There's probably some sort of connection there, but I'm not sure how to run down that lead.

No doubt the truth can be unpleasant, but I am not sure that unpleasantness is the same as the truth.  — Roger Ebert
It is difficult to get a person to understand something when their livelihood depends upon them not understanding it. — Upton Sinclair (adapted)
People cannot be reasoned out of an opinion that they have not reasoned themselves into. — Fisher Ames (adapted)

I searched for Coptic knitting groups on Ravelry and only found this one: Sock it! It's basically inactive but there are some links that might be useful. There's also a nalbinding group.

Somewhere in my notes I had this citation from Piecework:
Amann, Rudy; 'A Möbius Scarf to Nålbind' in Piecework Vol. IX N. 3, May / June 2001; Interweave Press, 2001; pgs. 33-34

That issue is available at the library here, though I haven't gone to look at it yet.
